Flame resistant clothing vs. flame retardant

Unlike flame retardant clothing, flame resistant shirts and pants are designed to protect wearers from thermal injury and active flames from electric arcs, combustible dusts and flash fires. FR clothing can resist ignition and self-extinguises once the source of ignition has been removed. This prevents the possibility of burns from initial exposure of the flames and residual heat transfer.
